How do I figure out if a rug is handknotted or not?

I'm thinking about buying a used rug on craigslist. I realize that buying rugs are perilous, and will be purchasing something I think looks attractive on my floor rather than worrying about whether I'm getting an authentic or valuable rug. But I'd still like to know if a rug is actually hand knotted or not. Bonus question: is there a good way to tell if flatwoven rugs are handmade?

Watch this video.

Basically, check the underside of the carpet. If the knots in each row are perfectly aligned (---------) then it was machine-made. If the knots in the same row seems to be very slightly out of alignment (ie some slightly higher, some slightly lower, but still in the same row) then likely it was handmade.
