Speeding up the Organizing of Movies in iTunes Library

I am running iTunes 10.6.3 on an external HD for my iMac 2.93 Ghx Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB Memory. Movies are mp4. I want to organize in bulk by selecting a bunch of movies and putting them under "Horror", "Action", and "Unwatched", for example.

I don't really care about album art or other things niceties.

The problem is that iTunes is slowwwwwwwwwww when I select a movie and edit the metadata tag and am wondering if there is a workaround similar to those who change their mp3s in bulk to a different album title for example. I can't seem to select many at once to do bulk changes regardless. I want this very general organization for my Apple TV so I don't scroll through so many movies. If you recommend this answer as an alternative which bascially recommends XBMC or PLEX, feel free to suggest though if iTunes is capable I would prefer that for now. Thanks in advance.

Best answer: You could try another app like iFlicks which is dedicated to metadata editing. You're running a very old version of iTunes, though, and I think iFlicks requires v12.

You might find some useful scripts on Doug's Applescripts for iTunes, such as Make Video Tags.

Response by poster: I would happily update but I hear crummy news about iTunes 11 on up. (Well, to be frank, I think i've heard bad news about iTunes regardless so maybe it doesn't matter.)

Response by poster: Just tried Doug's scripts...looks like mine is too new for it but too old (yet) for iFlicks. I may update iTunes and bit the bullet of the newer interface.

You need more memory, 4Gb is not cutting it for what you want to do...

The interface on the new iTunes is different but that's mostly the default interface. You can still (sort of) get the version you are used to with a little work. I'd start there and re-assess if you need something else after that. I'm surprised you are seeing that sort of slowness with bulk metadata updating.
