Why are song credits so hard to find?

Anyone know of a dependable encyclopedia for song credits?

I like a song from the Netflix series Bloodline, in Episode 7. In order to find the artist and title I Googled, IMDB'd and Wikipedia'd to no avail. I eventually googled enough lyrics to confirm my impression that it was Jack White singing (on the awesome title track from the album, Lazeretto). I'm just wondering why the song credits are not available, or where I might have found them. I skipped to the closing credits of the episode, and the song was not listed even there, which is baffling.

Best answer: I'm just wondering why the song credits are not available

Semi-educated guess is that whatever deal Netflix negotiated with Jack White & his associated record label(s) & song publisher(s) didn't require it. It's legally required that the various writers & copyright holders get paid for the use of a song & recording, but actual on-screen credit is probably up for negotiation. I know I've seen other shows where I've heard songs I know, but there's no on-screen credit. This could (possibly) be connected to how much of the song is heard, and in what context.

If credit is required as part of the deal, then end credits would be the most likely place to look, so you're not off-base there.

If the song wasn't openly credited, then, y'know, *shrug* - Bloodline only got released five days ago, I'm not surprised that there isn't much info out there. Getting that kind of detail on record is probably pretty low on the IMDB priority list, and Wikipedia would be crowd-sourced and maybe nobody's done the detective work yet, and a lot of Google results for that kind of detail would also be crowd-sourced (like someone figures it out and posts it on a blog or Tumblr or Twitter.) You might just be expecting a little too much instantaneous information out of your fellow web denizens.

Response by poster: Your answer confirms my uninformed intuitions about what went on re: general internet sources, and exactly clarifies the question of the lack of credit even on the show. Thanks for the effort.

I've found the app Shazam really useful in situations like this. I checked and it can recognize the theme song to Bloodline (The Water Lets You In - Book of Fears). It's really eerie how many songs it accurately identifies quickly. It's like living in the future! So, while its not technically a song credit archive like you're asking for, it's what I've been using since I can find one either.
