Patterns recognition?

I'm looking for printable quality, large scale black and white patterns for background use in collage and decoupage work.

Like these , but without the watermarks or licensing fees. There are some decent open source ones I've found, but I'm wondering if anyone knows the best source for them, rather than just googling variations on "free monochrome patterns.

The Pattern Library has a few b/w ones.

Are you using Illustrator? Because there's tons of free repeating vector patterns online. COLOURlovers also includes patterns which can be printed out as jpgs.

The keyword you want is "screentone". You can buy actual screentone sheets for cutting up and using however you like, though that can get expensive. The funky patterns are harder to find, as well. But there are free ones of varying quality in droves on places like deviantart and communities that also create custom photoshop brushes and textures.

i just saw some origami paper in good b&w patterns at michael's, though those are only 5" square. They almost definitely have similar in their scrapbooking section and probably 12" square.
Gift wrap?
If not those, then Dover Books has tons of books of patterns and design.
All these will definitely be cheaper than printing them yourself. Or you could run any pattern you like through photoshop (or similar), desaturate, and amp the contrast.

If you don't mind dealing with paper instead of digital files: I have a bunch of books from the Grafix series by Wolfgang Hageney, which are full of repeating black and white patterns - in fact, I recognize some of your google image results as being scanned from Grafix. If I remember right, the license on the books is a lot like Dover clip art: you can freely use the patterns in your art; you just can't resell them as a clip art resource.

Some of the Grafix books are available used through Amazon or abebooks, or maybe in your local used book store.
