What's the best cross-compatible online chess app/site/program?
I'm looking to play chess against a variety of people, all who use a different technology stack - iPhone, Androids, Windows Phone, Chrome on PC.
Surely there must be a solution/app/program out there for this!
Any recommendations?

So, you're looking to play with particular people who are already your friends?
I would probably have said go to www.freechess.org. There are instructions about how to use various interfaces at http://www.freechess.org/interfaces.html --there's something for everyone, Linux, Apple, Windows, whatever. There's a certain learning curve when it comes to the various commands, e.g. "match [your friend's handle] rated 15 0" would challenge your opponent to a game where each side gets 15 minutes, but there are admins who will answer your questions.
If you're already an experienced player and willing to pay to have good opponents, Russians and so on who will kick your ass regularly, you can do what I did, which is go to chessclub.com and download one of their interfaces instead. I use BlitzIn, but I'm pretty sure there are options there too for users of other operating systems.
Chess24.com is another decent up-and-coming option.
One thing I would recommend against is playing on Yahoo. Those people are assholes.
