What does "on on" mean?

I saw this on a license plate in Mt. Pleasant recently. I believe it has a meaning as a call in a certain sport or hobby but it slips my mind and it's impossible for me to google. Thanks!
Best answer: Dammit, people beat me to it. Yes, it's hashing (the drinking club with a running problem). A hasher shouts "On on" when they see chalk/flour/some marking on the ground indicating they are on the right track (chasing the hare). Completely reasonable adult behavior. see here

Best answer: That license plate might have been my dad's, whose Hashes often take him around NW DC.

If you start looking you'll see a lot of stickers on cars in addition to this one license plate. This bare foot footprint with on-on in it is the one I see on most of the DC area cars.
