How do you get the other world to change on the Coraline DS game?

I got to day 3 where you get the exclamation point and then have the nightmare mini-game. I did not get the 50 points needed for the blue boots. While I was playing the game, the screen turned off. I thought maybe my ds was not charged. But I turned it back on and it was fine. Then when I went back to Coraline's room and went to the left of the bed, I saw there is no longer an explanation point that would allow me to play the nightmare mini-game again. I also went downstairs hoping to find the other world change, because that is what some websites say will happen at this point. But my other world did not change.

I feel stuck.

Do you have to win the nightmare mini-game in order to have the other world change? Or is the mini-game just to get the boots?

Any ideas for me to get the other world to change (meaning, the other mother will look mean), I would appreciate it.
