dropbox app cannot sync to the server

hello, I have this strange problem at my Asus x201e Laptop: (win8, 64) I have access to the internet from the browser and other apps, but the dropbox app cannot access the server and sync. from any other network (not from my home) my dropbox app can access the server, even further.. from my computer when I connect to the Internet via VPN connection the dropbox app can sync to the server, as well as at safe-mode. I have tried everything I can in the direction of the network settings, nothing helped.. Does anyone can evaluate the direction to solve my problem ? Many Thanks.

Here are some ideas.

Temporarily disable the antivirus to see if that helps.

Check your hosts file to make sure it doesn't have any lines that look something like this: 127.0.0.1 dropbox.com

Manually set your DNS server to be 8.8.8.8

Try turning off your firewall. Obviously, you want that back up once you figure out if that's it.

Has is worked in the past, but stopped? Or never worked?

Reboot your router. Reinstall Dropbox.

I would try resetting TCP/IP per the procedure described here.

Also, sometimes malware messes with Internet transmission. Run a bunch of different free antivirus programs (like MalWareBytes) to see if anything comes up.

Response by poster: hello and thanks. I did tried resetting TCP/IP using the NetShell utility and running MaleEareBytes (my favorite) as well with no results. The issue is that the Dropbox app cannot access the Internet, but while my connection is with my work's VPN the Dropbox app can access the Internet, vary strange... picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4is9fl7gd3ivl2l/01-02.png?dl=0

Open a command window and type "tracert dropbox.com". Then paste the results here. This might give us an idea of where the problem lies. On the other hand, it's possible that the Dropbox client is trying to access some other host (not dropbox.com) to sync your files, in which case the results of the test would be meaningless. Anyway, it's worth trying.

Also, it's a long-shot, but I recently encountered a PC that was infected with the Poweliks trojan, which messed-up Internet access for the PC. Most antivirus programs wouldn't even detect the trojan, much less clean it. MalWareBytes Anti-Rootkit Beta worked, though. (You'd think that the people who make MalWareBytes would bundle that functionality with their main antivirus product, but they don't, for some reason.

Response by poster: Thanks for the link of the MalWareBytes product, the scan did not found anything. The command prompt line output is in the picture, 'hotnet' is my Internet provider, this is a download speed result from the last hour. any help is very welcome..

I dunno... I'm out of ideas. You're in Israel, right? I did find this interesting note. Not sure if it's relevant to your situation.
