Pedometer for senior citizen?

I'd like to give a pedometer as a fun gift for an active senior; something as simple as a digital watch. Seeking one that's very easy and intuitive to use, and very simple to read and re-set. Most importantly, it must be self-contained- no need to plug into a computer or smartphone. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It won't be the cheapest option--actual pedometers are super cheap--but the garmin vivofit might be what you're looking for. It's a digital watch that counts steps. No charging (change the watch battery once a year), one button, and waterproof. Just put it on and leave it on.

Only downside is that you'll pay for functionality (syncing, heart rare) you won't use. But if that's okay, the vivofit works great.

What you want is an Omron HJ-112. Not their latest model anymore, but the one I used before I got my Fitbit. It was bulletproof. Just drop it in your pocket and go. And no computer connection. It remembers about five days worth of step count, which you can page through on the device itself, but that's about as complicated as it gets. Great build quality - I could still use mine today - only issue is that the finish has largely worn off around the edges from riding around in the watch pocket of my jeans for years. Seemed accurate enough for my purposes. Within five percent or so when I tried actually counting off large numbers of steps, and I assumed the errors sort of cancelled out.

It was a great pedometer and if I didn't actually want the computer connection features that you want to avoid, I'd still be using it.

EDIT - Well bloody hell. Now I notice it may be discontinued and hard to find. Can't speak to its replacement, but if they didn't screw anything up, it should still rock.
