Name this kids fantasy movie

Sometime between 1990 and 1995 I watched a medieval/fantasy movie where a boy on quest gets ~12 knights to go along with him (after resurrecting them somehow?) and then they all die, one by one, as they encounter various trials on the way. Ring a bell?
There was a swamp where one knight falls in the water and then comes up a skeleton, and I think some maidens that turned into ugly crones that bit the knights. It may never have been released in theaters since I just saw it on VHS.
