Portable speakers on par with the Retina Mac

The speakers on my 15" Retina MacBook Pro sound remarkably good for portable, low-profile speakers, and even the best ultra-portable speakers I've heard can't compare, especially on the high end. Do any ultra-portable speakers use the same "advanced design" as the Retina Mac, or are there ultra-portable speakers that truly match the levels of volume and clarity in the mids and high end as the Retina MacBook? (I'm hoping for responses specifically from people familiar with the sound of the 15" Retina Mac.)

I'm happy with the speakers on my Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus.

Are you asking about other laptops, or standalone speakers? If the latter, the jambox mini Is really excellent.

How ultra-portable you talkin'? Specifically as flat and small as a MBP's speakers?

In general, I'm not sure there's a market for ultra-portable speakers with a focus on flat response / clarity in mids and highs. The goal for tiny speakers seems to be to wow users with bass response relative to their size.

(I do have the 15" Retina MBP, but I've thought for decades that Apple really stands alone in consumer audio hw quality.)

I've used these Razer Ferox speakers for a couple years to improve sound on my 15" MBP (an older model), and been pleased with them except for the annoying light effect on the bottom. They're tiny (each would fit in a coffee mug easily), produce good sound, and have built-in batteries so you they don't always need to be USB'ed in. They're separate and cabled too so they'll work with any 1/8" jack and can be placed for best stereo separation.

I'm afraid I don't have a retina MBP so I can't give you that comparo, but they're remarkably good for their size, very portable.
