Kitchen sink sprayer reattachment

Please help me fix a broken sink sprayer attachment. This has nothing to do with pipes or else I would call a plumber. I am trying to reattach the base of the sprayer back onto the sink. The sink is stainless steel but the sprayer base may actually be plastic painted to look like metal. Pics: [1], [2], [3].

It looks like it was previously attached with some sort of adhesive. So what kind of adhesive do I use to reattach it?

Thanks!

IANAPlumber. I would use waterproof epoxy in this case to glue plastic to metal. Here's an example. Available wherever fine home products are sold.

Best answer: Adhesive? That's a new one for me.

Generally the piece that collars around the bottom of the sprayer when it's seated is male, and extends down through that other piece, then through the sink, where a threaded section hangs down beneath the sink. You just zip the little plastic nut up that collar until it's snug and you're set.

Ninja edit: This product pic shows what I mean.

Response by poster: Whoa TomMelee, my mind is blown! There IS another piece there. My arms aren't really long enough to to screw it back on by myself right now. But clearly that is what I should be doing.

Funny, the exact same thing happened to me -- I made the mistake of asking my minimally-competent co-op maintenance man to install a new faucet set when my old one sprung a leak, and he used some cheap adhesive on the sprayer collar instead of the attachment part that TomElee mentioned (perhaps the set he brought was missing that part, whatever), and it came completely loose in a couple of months. A friend bought a replacement sprayer, better looking than the maintenance guy's, that came with the collar and nut, and installed it in 5 minutes. I think you just need to get down on the floor and go up underneath the sprayer to attach it.

A basin wrench will help you reach.

Careful with the basin wrench, it'll give you enough leverage that you could easily break the parts with it.
