Naming a Kitten (yes, pictures are included)

Thought I had the perfect name, but now I'm not sure... The kitten in question is tabby/Bengal, or perhaps "benglish" and deserves the right name. What do you suggest?

I asked this question about 3 weeks ago and all has gone well so far. Kitten home safely, check. Grown up kitties are getting used to him, check.
Name? Well, I'm still leaning toward Bud E. Boy (middle name Esterhaus) or Dennis, but I'm having so much trouble deciding between them that I'm starting to think that there's another name out there that I haven't thought of yet and is perfect.

I would like a name that is somewhat unusual for a cat and is a friendly name, as he is a very friendly little guy. Maybe a literary reference (Everett?) or something related to the theatre (Harold?).

Mefites, what perfect name for this little guy have I heretofore not considered?

He is beautifully marbled, so I suggest Onyx.

Best answer: How about Jasper? (Or you could spell it "Jaspurr!")

Response by poster: Rosie M. Banks, this is so weird but just before you posted, I was walking down the hall thinking "Jasper? the mineral, not the flower." That might be a sign.

Fuzzy
(or Grainy).

Depending on habits it could also be Sir Prancealot.

Best answer: I had a cat named Jasper, named for the Canadian national park, which is named for the mineral, I think. That cat has since passed on after living a full, happy life, so you can use Jasper if you'd like. I grant you royalty-free permission and everything.

But I came in to say that cat's name is Sausage Toes, or just Sausage.

Oh, he looks just like our neighbor's cat growing up. They named him Waldo (for the stripes). Used to dash across the street whenever he saw us outside, and then hang around like we were his second home, sometimes for hours.

I believe this pun run on the blue contains the answer you are looking at. If you can make it through the end and decide between Isaac Mewton and Johannes Katpler.

Earnest. Friendly, vaguely literary, approachable, popular, can be Ernie

He looks like a Benny to me. Could be short for something (Benjamin, Benedict, Benson, Benvolio, Bender...), or could reflect his "benglish"ness. Also, it just sounds friendly. Benny!

Best answer: I came in to suggest Beckett, but Jasper is cool too. Cute kitty!

I suggest keeping Buddy and Fuzzy as pet names. He deserves something a little distinguished when it's time to introduce him around.

Oh man, that is one cute cat. Adonis.

Best answer: Jasper is a perfect name! You can shorten it to Jazz. Cats rarely come when they are called anyway but the z sound is unusual enough that you may luck out.

Response by poster: I can't name him Fred as that is my boyfriend's name, otherwise of course it would be Fred.

I am mollified.

Could I sell you on the value of Hubert, perhaps?

Best answer: Arthur (Conan Doyle, if you want a literary reference or Sullivan if you want a theater one).

Although Jasper is a pretty awesome name.

Bengal + Tabby = Bengalby. Or Phil Collins.

Response by poster: FFFM, I thought about Hubert but I pronounce it Oooh, bear! and then I always say pooh bear and so I had to give up the idea.

Names that have to be scratched because of a too-close association with past or present friends, boyfriends, or animals:

Ed
Fred
Arthur
Jack
Jake
Howard
Animal
Williams
Wally

Also perhaps I should have mentioned that his adoptive sisters' names are Cosgrove and Little Kiwi, so don't even think of suggesting those!

Now I will shut up

I don't know- I think he has a secret night life... or an alter-ego, but he looks like "Mr. Jonathan Jeffrey Pitterpaws, Esquire" to me.

I really like Dennis. You might be overthinking this...
:)

(plus, when you give a kitten an elegant name, he will inevitably turn out to be a prankster or neurotic cat or something that would have fit a different name altoghter -- my cat Pasha-should-have-been-Smudge can tell you all about it!)
