Customising SuiteCRM by the customer?

New job is going swimmingly except that the CRM I am working with is fast being shown by its own abilities to be a dud. It is called SuiteCRM. I am done with the official customer support and looking for a book that will show me how to do all the things our IT consultant either can't be bothered to do or doesn't know how to do. Particularly, set up functionality to receive email in the CRM and install email templates. Can you signpost me?
