How do I not deform my belt?

Every belt I wear eventually degrades into something like this on the end with the holes: http://i.imgur.com/bBttJLR.jpg (Sorry for the bad camera quality.) Should I be worried, and if so, what should I be fixing about how I wear belts?

Some natural curving is totally normal.

In my own experience, this type of bigger curving occurs when either a) my belt is holding up my pants (instead of just looking nice) and/or b) the belt is not high quality.

Best answer: That looks normal for a (sorry for the bluntness) cheap belt. Naragansett Leathers makes very nice belts that are affordable and much more durable. Other options mentioned in this thread.

Buy only full grain leather belts; you'll buy one and it will last 10, 15, 20 years. You may be buying "100% leather belts," but that generally means a veneer of pretty leather sandwiching a leather/glue pulp in the middle. It's junk and will fall apart, and turn to wavy garbage like what you're experiencing. (I've even been suckered with a Tumi belt that was garbage).

LL Bean makes some good full grain leather belts, and they're not too expensive--$45 or something.

Move it out a notch when fastening it.

Best answer: I avoid belt-bending by putting it on both ways. Sometimes I'll thread it through the belt loops clockwise around my waist, and sometimes I'll thread it through counter-clockwise. It looks no different, and keeps the belt straight.

Buy three belts and rotate them. Never wear the same belt two days in a row if you can help it.

Get yourself a Mission Belt. Wife got me one as a present and it's the best thing ever.

Seconding Naragansett Leathers. Their ordering system is a bit quirky, but you get a heavy, solid leather strap that will last forever.
