Activites for the mobility challenged within an hour of so of SF

I'm looking for ideas for things to do with my in-laws and my six week old baby that require basically zero walking.

We don't want to drive farther than an hour or so to make the logistics easier with a baby that wants to eat every 1-2 hours (yay growth spurt!). My father-in-law can't walk even a block. A wheelchair isn't an option. And oh, yeah, it's be great if it would be easy for FIL to smoke. They're here for a week and we're dying just sitting in the house.

A boat tour of the bay? And/or those tour buses? These depend on how calm/happy your baby tends to be, I guess.

Or a murder mystery dinner show! I keep hearing good things about those and there's a groupon for one right now.

Go out to lunch? Somewhere outdoors, sit on a patio and watch people / waves / whatever?

The New Parkway is a comfy, love-seat style movie theater in Uptown Oakland that offers "Baby Brigade" showings twice a week for parents who want to get out of the house. Good food and drinks as well!

I take a ferry to Sausalito to get brunch. There's shops or you can sit on a bench and people watch. There's also a bunch of really nice beaches down Highway 1. The weather's getting chilly so bring a sweatshirt or windbreaker, but still it's a beautiful place for a picnic. It's easy to tell from the road which beaches have the parking lot right there and which require a little walk.

Best answer: I've done the SF/Sausalito ferry with a similarly mobility limited person.

The walk to the ferry itself on each end is more than a block. (SF: front of Ferry building to far back. Sausalito: the park in front of the ferry landing to the ferry itself.)

My person had to stop for breath twice from the front of the Ferry building in San Francisco, to the ferry. My person had to stop for breath twice from the Ferry landing in Sausalito to a restaurant one block away.

It was a wait for him to walk that "far", but the trip itself was well-enjoyed. Once he was on the ferry, it was easy to find a seat close to the entrance which kept him happy enough.

Smoking almost anywhere in San Francisco or Sausalito is problematic. Restaurants and parks no longer allow smoking.

Best answer: Other ideas:
* drive to Treasure Island for the view west to San Francisco. You can get out of the car at water's edge. This isn't as popular a view as the...
* drive to the turnaround at the north end of Golden Gate bridge for another, different iconic view of San Francisco.
* drive to Land's End or the USS San Francisco memorial. The memorial has parking immediately there, and smoking would be unlikely to disturb anyone.

drive to the turnaround at the north end of Golden Gate bridge for another, different iconic view of San Francisco.

Better yet, take the first exit, go through the tunnel under the freeway, and drive up Hawk Hill. There's parking up at the top, and there's a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean, and much of San Francisco. (Or a great view of some fog, which I guess is also a famous local thing.)

The double-decker tour buses needs more cowbell suggests are a great idea for people with limited mobility. Get off and on whenever you want (i.e. when food calls.)

Twin Peaks requires very little walking. You may be able to stop and let your passengers out and then go park. Don't leave anything valuable in plain sight or put anything in the trunk when you're up there.

Edited to add: If it's sunny, you can take the folks down to Ocean Beach to see the ocean. You could also drive south along the Great Highway to Hwy 1 and cut back over to 280 at Half Moon Bay. Maybe lunch at the Cliff House or Beach Chalet?
