Name that chicken house!
October 8, 2014 4:21 PM   Subscribe

We've built a lovely new chicken house, and it needs a sign over the door with the name. Best I can come up with is The Chook Palace. What would be a good name for my chicken house/chicken coop?

Once the chicken house has its sign, I will post a picture, complete with windows, lace curtains, barn (coop) art, and chicken cut-outs.

Husbunny says, The C. Everett Coop.

I'm thinking more along the lines of the Rhode Island Bed (puns on the chicken type might be fun.)

Are you going to eat these chickens or are they layers? What breed are they? It kind of sounds like they'll be pastured--will they? How many are there/will there be? Is this a chicken tractor or do they range freely (sans enclosure) during the day? All data that might nudge inspiration in a felicitous direction.

Whatever you choose, the theme song should be (with apologies to the Commodores):

It's a chick.... house. It's mighty mighty, lettin' hens lay about.

Etc.

Response by poster: The answers in this thread are just too, too funny.

Bricoleur, your overthinking a plate of ... fried eggs.
But FWIW, these are layers--Jersey Giants, with a JG rooster named Roopert. I'll be getting Buff Orpington chicks again next spring. The Jerseys are fun, but can't compete with the Buffs for personality, hardiness, and laying ability. The hen house is light green, and will have white and forest green trim. The coop is 10x20 bare ground under trees, and the chooks are let out during the day to range through the horse pens. Since most of the garden has been harvested, they're now allowed in there, also. With the exception of Roopert, they're not named or kept as pets, they're supposed to clean up the bugs and produce wonderful brown eggs.

I'm having trouble picking out just one answer. Will have to cogitate some on this. Keep 'em comin!

If you have a rooster named Roopert and are going to have Buff Orpingtons and do not go with a Buffy joke for this chicken house, you... well, you have to.

Hellmouth is a little scary, but The Library is an option. Sunnydale or Sunnydale High. The Bronze. The Magic Box! The Watcher's Council! Other people probably have better Buffy puns than me!

Response by poster: You guys are great. I'm going to go with Iridic's Nest Western, painted in yellow on a blue background. Instead of a crown, it will be a nest with a single egg above. Somehow seems fitting, with regard to the location and all.

Lyn Never, the whole Buffy thing really appealed to my oldest granddaughter. I alas, know little about the program as am not a fan.
