I want to get a box about the right size for lying in or sitting down in (or both) for as cheap as possible, that will close tightly but with air holes and stuff.

Basically, a coffin for thinking in. Cardboard is OK, other materials OK, just cheap as possible. Where can I get such a thing? I don't have a car, and I would prefer online shopping.

A refrigerator box would fit the bill. Can't be bought online, but I imagine if you talk to your local appliance store and offer to pay them $30 or something, they'd drop one off at your place after delivering a refrigerator nearby.

Best answer: If you can't find a box that suits your needs, you could make one with cardboard and duct-tape. You could even customize your own cardboard fort!

Best answer: This may be tangential and isn't sealed but if I'm right in thinking you're thinking of the Temple Grandin effect....would this kind of thing fit the bill? A tunnel.

If you're moving house in the UK you can buy a 'coffin box' online, which would easily let me sit or lie down in it. I'm nearly 6'2". Try online box stores for people moving house. I suspect it'll have a different name though. Just ring and ask about their biggest box size?

If you want something tubular any building supply place can get Sonotube in a wide range of sizes; they come in lengths up to 5' and you could attach two together if you want a longer tube.

For a longer, larger, and more permanent tubular enclosure I'd consider HDPE pipe, which comes in diameters up to about 63", but it's heavier and harder to handle and cut than a simple cardboard tube, and more expensive.

And if you want something for outdoor use, used sections of big concrete or CMP (corrugated metal pipe) culvert can be found surprisingly cheap or free in a variety of shapes with some asking around.
