Chicago Hotel room for 3 adults

What's the best hotel choice in downtown Chicago for a hotel room for 3 adults, i.e, 2 beds and a cot/rollaway/sofabed?

Some criteria & details:

-Price isn't really super important I know the right room will cost $$
-It's for 3 nights Nov 28 - Dec 1
-I'm only interested in hotels right downtown - i guess that means the loop or magnificent mile? some help on Chicago terminology would be great.

I guess what I really want to know is which hotels are really good at this kind of request?

For $300 a night you could each have your own room in a nice vacation rental: http://www.vrbo.com/199279

The Embassy Suites can be comparatively) economical and are much more comfortable for sharing than a single room with a cot. There are two of them very centrally located.

The Loop, technically, is the part of the city bounded by the loop the L makes south and east of the river. Magnificent Mile is the mile or so of Michigan Avenue that runs north from the river to the Oak Street curve (more or less) of the Lake.

Generally, the Loop is slightly closer to the museums [The MCA is on the Mag Mile and the MSI is south of the Field, Art Institute and the Shedd, which are in the park near the L loop] and where most of the theatres are. The Loop is more or less the central business district and gives you best access to the various train lines.

Broadly speaking, the Mag Mile is the shopping district. The Hancock is on the Mag Mile. The Sears Tower is just outside the bounds of the L loop.

For tourist purposes, any hotel north of Congress, south of Oak street and east of Wells is conveniently located to the L, the shops, cabs, restaurants, theatres, landmarks and Navy Pier. Bear in mind that Wacker follows the river and is an East-West street for a while then it makes a 90 degree turn to become a North-South street.

I have no hotel recommendations.

All hotels can accommodate requests for rollaways. I'm not sure what "really good" means. They're always uncomfortable! I guess if you want the most space, and you don't want to deal with the possibility that the hotel forgets your request and makes you wait for the rollaway, then try booking a suite with two beds and a sleeper sofa.

Best answer: It's not the most architecturally inspiring place nor is it particularly cool, but the Holiday Inn in the Chicago Sun Times building is reasonably priced (for being downtown Chicago) and has humongous rooms. Like, huge. Two queen beds with enough space to comfortably fit a rollaway. My dad stayed there last time he was in town for business and I had to admit, the rooms were very nice and the view was stellar (he was on a corner and got the river in both directions).

It's right next to the Merchandise Mart and will put you on the river, so you're right there between the Loop and the Mag Mile.

Homewood Suites (by Hilton) has an option for two doubles and a pull-out couch (or just the couch, if the pull-out is not preferable), and they are downtown.

Also includes free hot breakfast. Can't vouch for the Chicago branch, but have stayed in Boston and Baltimore and I'm a fan.

There is a huge radiology conference in Chicago Nov 30-Dec 5. Nearly all the hotels in the central city (loop and river north) will sell out. You should book asap.

I've recommended the boutique Kimpton Hotels in the past, in particular I like Hotel Monaco. The bad news is that it's all-ready sold out so you will need to look at one of their other locations - Hotel Allegro is in the theater district and has an art deco theme, but I would suggest Hotel Burnham, which is a couple of blocks from Millennium Park. These will start at about 425 a night for 3 adults, and like others have noted- should be booked soon.

Response by poster: Thanks everyone some very helpful responses. I ended up booking at the Holiday Inn. The size of the rooms as attested to by phunniemee was the key. All things being equal an awesome boutique hotel would be even better, but we're not planning on spending much time in the room anyhow...
