Planning a special weekend for an out-of-town cutie.

What would be fun things to do when a long-distance makeout buddy is visiting? (other than, uh, make out) What little things would make this special and interesting and fun?

I'm looking for suggestions of things to do in advance to make it special, like putting nice sheets on the bed, or things to do, like getting takeout and eating it somewhere scenic. Cheap/free ideas preferred!

If you are comfortable sharing, where are you? May help with specifics.

I like picnics, hiking, nice dinner spots, art museums, photographs, street fairs, and then of course...quality time ;)

In my days of doing such things, picnics and tour-guiding and walking around easily took up a weekend.

Something local and unique to the area is always fun - so when my wife and I did a meet in the middle weekend in Birmingham for Valentine's last year, we went and saw Vulcan, which you can't do anywhere else. :) So is there a local landmark or free museum or something like that that they can't do at home?

My favourite romantic excursion is going to the farmer's market together to pick out drinks, fruit, veg, cheese, cured meats, bread, and maybe some spreads. Then with picnic accoutrements (blanket /napkins /plates /cups /knives) already packed, take the lot to a beautiful park or remote scenic location, and enjoy a few hours of nibbling, feeding each other, conversing, and making out if it's not too public.

I'm guessing you might be looking for more indoorsy, or at least less summery stuff, depending on where you are?

Renting (or downloading) a couple of movies in advance and setting up a cozy space to watch them in and getting some fun snacks might be good.

I'd get the ingredients and start the prep to make a nice, real breakfast. Like french toast and bacon and pancakes and fresh cut fruit and, if you're drinkers, mimosas. I feel like that makes houseguests feel special.

I see your anon, but maybe you can tell a mod what city you're in? People could give you ideas for a cool spot and cute hidden treasure to visit.
