How To Repair A Steel Security Door?

No idea how it happened, but there's a rip in our steel security door. Is this something that can be repaired?

As my wife and I were leaving our apartment today, we noticed that there was a sizable (about four inch long) tear in the heavy screen of our steel security door (identical to the door in this video). Indeed, the screen is torn and has been torn away from the frame at one bolt.

Is there any effective way to repair this? It was expensive to buy and install so we're loathe to replace it.

Can you post a picture?

Not to alarm you, but keep in mind that someone probably did this, and they may be coming back. So be extra-vigilant, and whatever you do about it, do it quick.

Can you ask whoever installed the door whether they do repairs?

Yeah, I'd be more worried about the fact that someone apparently tried to get through the door than just the repairs. Maybe you can find a metal-worker to weld some steel plates in front of the hinges and around the deadbolts?

If you're in an apartment, why not talk to your landlord?

We installed the door ourselves, with permission, but at our own cost. Part of the agreement was that if we installed it, we maintain it.

Yeah, I'd be more worried about the fact that someone apparently tried to get through the door

We have some theories about what happened that have more to do about an overzealous person knocking than a burglar. The location of the rip would be useless if they were trying to get in the apartment (its about 6' in the air and right in the middle), but exactly where our enthusiastic Ernest/"Say, Vern..." like neighbor would be knocking.

They do not but they'd be happy to replace it. I will see if I can get a photo uploaded.

Is the door still under any kind of warranty? If overenthousiastic knocking can rip it, what safety does it really offer?
