Or maybe it's not a weed.

Pictures. Close up here. Whole plant view here. Field view here. Height off the ground is about 40".

This is a park in New Canaan, CT. It's entirely possible that it's not a weed, but was planted, though I think not.

My fingers are crossed that the links work.

Looks like a type of Dianthus (carnation, or pinks).

Best answer: New York Ironweed. It's a native wildflower that blooms about now.
