How can I limit iPhone and Microsoft Exchange 2013 mail sync to one year

I have a large email account and would like to sync email to my iPhone - but only the emails going back one year. IOS 7.1.2 will allow one month and then "no limit". Nothing in between. I have even tried the Outlook app on the iPhone - kind of works, but search only goes back 6 months. Any ideas anyone?

Can you not just separately archive off anything older than one year into a separate location/folder in Exchange first and then sync the phone?

Or am I misunderstanding something?

Hi Brockles

Yes, that is one way of doing it. I was trying to avoid doing that - but thank you for confirming my 'plan B'.
