My send-as (if you mean the drop-down menu for choosing the from address) still works.

Mine works as well.

Could you somehow have switched yourself into the "simple html" gmail?

Yep...that's probably it. I just switched myself to "basic html" and my "send as" disappeared. At the bottom of your main screen you have "Gmail View: Standard HTML Basic HTML". Click standard.

I'm on a mac and Gmail is set to standard view, but I don't have a "send as" function (Safari/Firefox).

Neither do I! FF/Mac. Where is it and how do you set it up?

Response by poster: nope, have it set as standard view, and flipping betwixt the two makes no difference

was originally set up through the Accounts tab in settings.

Best answer: I use the 'Send As...' feature, but I can disable it if I change my language preference from 'English (US)' to 'English (UK)'. Did you accidentally mis-set ths?

Best answer: I had to switch my language to English (US) from English (UK) before this feature appeared on my account.

keep in mind your gmail address is still in the headers and, depending on the mail client of the recipient, it may even be listed as the "from" address.
