turn my pc into a fireplace

I would like to turn my computer into a fireplace. Note: not by burning my pc. I want my monitor to display the burning logs and I want to hear the fire roaring and crackling. I would prefer it not to be a screensaver but if thats what you got then i'll take it and be happy.

Best answer: The only things I've found are an animated desktop, and a seemingly good screensaver, both of which are unfortunately shareware.

Are you going to play christmas music too?

Can you borrow a videocamera and video an actual fire for an hour and digitize the movie?

There's a Windows Media Player visualisation plugin that does this. The flames dance in time to the music. It was the most wonderfully tacky thing I ever saw. Can't remember what it was called, though.

Best answer: The only place i know is duraflame (flash) for some screensavers. You would think a guy who sells fireplaces (me) would have a collection, but no.
However it is the holiday season and in that sprit i like to show this dry scotch pine video (nist) to my customers to instill a little healthy holiday paranoia.

That duraflame one is cool but does anyone know how to edit it so that it just stays a burning log instead of periodically morphing into a duraflame logo?

I was looking for a good fireplace screensaver last year! I didn't find one, but have downloaded all the suggestions to try. Mm... cozy computer fireplace. (We don't have the real thing, alas.)

How about the Fantastic Flame Screensaver? I know you said screensavers weren't your first choice but there's a free demo and it's a beautiful, firey screensaver. It actually simulates any image burning so you'll have to dig up your own picture of logs.

I hope you'll check this thread again - I found a fireplace screensaver that has sound.
