Write anywhere?

November is National Novel Writing Month, and I've got 50,000 words to write in 28 days. Isn't there a free web app that would allow me to write anywhere, without having to upload/download any text docs, but simply write/edit online and save changes?

Yep. I've been using Backpack/Writeboard to jot notes and text bits when I'm away from home. I'm not doing Nanowrimo, but it should work for that.

Also, there's this MeTa thread where other Mefites are reporting their Nano progress.

I'd use a flash drive on a keyring. You're (slightly) more likely to find a PC without net access than a PC without USB, I think.

Gmail autosaves any compositions, includes a spell checker and gives you 2.5 gigs of space. What more do you need?

GMail, with its regular autosave feature, would work very well for this.

I second the flash drive option. It's working well so far for my 1690 word masterpiece. Watch your local bookstores.

Yahoo mail has a note pad feature, where you can add, edit etc a document to your hearts content.

I've been using my gmail to compose when I'm away from Write Station Prime.

Late to the party, obviously, but I noticed this while looking for widgets. Don't know if it's quite what you're looking for:
