Can anyone ID this spider currently chilling in my tub? I'm in NYC.

Any advice on how to get rid of it would also be much appreciated. Thanks!

Wolf spider. Harmless. Eats pests. Stick a glass over him, stick a piece of paper under the glass, toss him outside.

Looks like a domestic house spider (barn funnel weaver). Utterly harmless.

We called those wolf spiders in Texas too. Totally harmless. And, it probably wouldn't be there if it wasn't finding things to eat.

Fun wolf spider fact: When the babies hatch, they ride around on the back of the adult (assuming the mama, but don't know for sure). Stomp your foot near a spider full of spiders, and the babies SCATTER! Then they make their way back to the mama's back.

It's pretty cool if you like spiders, like I do. Probably nightmarish if you're afraid of them.

They are good to have around the house to eat other bugs. Don't mess with them and all will be well. I once saw a wolf spider take down a wasp over my door. Y'all probably don't get many wasps in your apartment though!

Yeah, after a bit of research I'm thinking it's a giant house spider or a black house spider. Either way, it does not appear to be a dangerous spider. :-)

I leave those guys if I find them inside, hoping they'll eat widows that happen to get inside.

Interesting. Do they eat roaches?

Yes, they will catch roaches if the roach goes near the crevice where the spider lives.
