The elephant-donating warrior

Who is Krishnokanto Gojdani and what is his story?
My family found a new ancestor of ours (my great*4-grandfather) named Krishnokanto Gojdani. According to my parents, he was a Hindu warrior who converted to Islam, and the "gojdani" is because he was known for donating golden elephant statues to poor people.
I tried looking him up but couldn't get anything. I might be spelling his name a little off. Who is he, and what's the deal with the golden elephants?

Response by poster: Huh, I wonder if that's the same guy (searching Gojdani also brought me someone else from Bengal with a subtly different story). Thank you!

But the first name is not the same. The right spelling would be "gaj" for an elephant.
