Graphic designer for an iPhone app

I'm currently coding an iPhone messaging client app which could use a designer for the screens and the app icon. I've tried oDesk.com and I'm having doubts about the quality of some of the applicants. Are there any good suggestions for websites that can provide a good designer? I'm looking for high quality work and I'm willing to pay a reasonable rate for it (though I would rather pay per project - currently I set $1000 for the project).

Sounds like a perfect thing to put over on Jobs.

Best answer: Many interactive designers are in Dribble. You can search by location and skills and look through their portafolios to see the kind of work they do.

I've hired numerous designers on sites like Elance and oDesk. For $1000 you are probably going to get fairly generic mediocre quality unless you have good design sense yourself, and are very hands-on in terms of pushing the designer to do multiple rounds of improvements and the designer is willing to do that.
