Best answer: John Singer Sargent's "Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth."

You may be interested in this, about the dress, which caused its own sensation at the time: The dress, transforming the beautiful red-haired actor into a cross between a jewelled serpent and a medieval knight, was the talk of the town after the first night.

It was restored by the National Trust at a cost of £110,000 in 2011, which prompted the article linked above.
