You got the powwwer!

You got the powwwer! Which movie was this from?

This phrase has been stuck in my head all day and it's driving me crazy trying to figure out which movie featured it.

Everytime someone opens the door/does something, (hidden?) loudspeakers would blare out (female voice, like it was sung) "You got the powwwer!" and this kept getting repeated "You got the powwwer!" over-and over again "You got the powwwer!" until someone gets frustrated and says "Quit it!" (or words to that effect).

For some reason I'm associating Tina Turner with this. Seems like something from the '80s.

What movie was this from or did I hallucinate this particularly annoying memory?

Was it Bruce Almighty? I didn't see the movie but I think it was in the promos.

It's from the Transformer's movie, a must-see.

The Transformers Movie is indeed a must-see. And the song is called "The Touch" by Stan Bush. Mark Wahlberg's character does a cover of it in Boogie Nights.

As cloeburner says.

Okay: I'm dying to know, why is the Transformers movie a must-see. I know this is a thread de-rail, but it seems the question may have been answered, and my curiosity has been piqued.

jdroth:
1. The plot is really awesome and very dark.
2. It features the voices of Orson Welles, Leonard Nimoy, Casey Kasem, Judd Nelson, and Scatman Crothers.
3. The music (see above).

Your thinking of "I've got the power" by SNAP.
posted by The Jesse Helms at 2:59 PM on October 10, 2005

Actually its called "The Power." "Rhythm Is A Dancer" is another pretty good SNAP song.

konolia is thinking of "The Power" by Chill Rob G. I first remember hearing this song in The Fisher King. The same song was used in the Bruce Almighty trailer, and maybe the movie (though I don't remember).

This song was best sung by Dirk Diggler.

You got the touch!
You got the power!

After all is said and done
You've never walked, you've never run,
You're a winner

You got the moves, you know the streets
Break the rules, take the heat
You're nobody's fool

You're at your best when when the goin' gets rough
You've been put to the test, but it's never enough

You got the touch!
You got the power!

When all hell's breakin' loose
You'll be riding the eye of the storm

You got the heart!
You got the motion!

You know that when things get too tough
You got the touch

You never bend, you never break
You seem to know just what it takes
You're a fighter

It's in the blood, it's in the will
It's in the mighty hands of steel
When you're standin' your ground

And you never get hit when your back's to the wall
Gonna fight to the end and you're takin' it all

You got the touch!
You got the power!

When all hell's breakin' loose
You'll be riding the eye of the storm

You got the heart!
You got the motion!

You know that when things get too tough
You got the touch

You're fightin' fire with fire
You know you got the touch

You're at your best when when the road gets rough
You've been put to the test, but it's never enough

You got the touch!
You got the power!
You got the touch!
You got the power!

After stripping Chill Rob G. of what should have been his career highlight, Snap! reached international rap/electronica success with its single, "The Power"...and later with club song "Rhythm Is a Dancer." Rob G.'s version of "The Power", which contained identical instrumentation to Snap!'s "The Power," was lyrically better and was in simultaneous rotation on the radio. However, due to international demands for Snap!'s tune, Chill Rob G.'s song was yanked out of rotation.

Response by poster: Hmm, I just dug up Transformers: The Movie - indeed there's the "You got the power" song at the end when Hot Rod turns into Rodimus prime (yes, awesome movie, thanks for reminding me).

However, this wasn't what I was thinking of. Maybe it was the trailer for Bruce Almighty <shrug> or maybe I just hallucinated it (Could have have been from one of the Bill & Teds?).

Instead of a song, it was more an isolated "You got the power" clip that would play after something (insignificant) happened and it kept getting repeated until someone lost their temper.

Response by poster: ... and no, the sound clip in my head wasn't from the Transformer's song.

sure it isn't ' I have the power!' (he-man)

I'm pretty sure I have similar memory of this phrase. But I think you're thinking about a Canadian TV show, and not a movie. What you describe is exactly what would happen, on this kids show. But I can't remember the name of the show.

Best answer: Sarah Bernhardt sang "I GOT THE POWER" in Hudson Hawk, but no one but me will admit to seeing it.

Sandra. Sandra Bernhardt.

Response by poster: Crash, I almost didn't Best Answer you because of that... ;)

Thanks for exorcising my brain, man.

It really wasn't that bad of a movie, very lighthearted, some nice church jokes. Reminds me of silly action movies that were popular in HK. The only thing I couldn't stand was Willis' singing. Well, maybe not even that.

Response by poster: Miles - was it YTV/"You Can't Do That on Television"?

It could also have been one of their sketches, but Hudson Hawk adequately covers it (the scene opens with two huge-assed doors opening and ends with Richard Grant's character slapping Bernhardt's around).

so hudson hawk was directed by the same guy who directed "heathers", which is of course an awesome movie... most of his films have been pretty offbeat.

"I've got the power" has been in many movies other than Hudson Hawk, such as The Fischer King.

I'll grant you "Heathers" was good, but that guy, Michael Lehmann, also directed "40 Days and 40 Nights", "My Giant", and "Airheads". Still think he's not a hack?

Hudson Hawk is the most underrated movie ever.

Uh...no. Just no.

Probably not what you're looking for, but the Black Knight 2000 pinball machine (circa 1989) has a very cool "You've got the power" sound bite that gets stuck in my head.
