Why do Rx pain meds make me so mellow and sentimental?

As I type this, I'm having to curb the urge to call friends and family and gush about how much I love them and how wonderful they are. I'm on 750mg of Percoset for an arthritis flare tonight. What is happening in my brain or body to cause these feelings? I'm always this way with any kind of Rx pain meds and I'm just curious. Thanks!

Best answer: urbandictionary.com "high"

420 Highness Chart [for grass, but with some similarities]

Erowid Percocet page

Enjoy; hope your flare settles down quickly!

Response by poster: Thank you! My Google fu is lacking when I'm like this. And thanks for the good wishes.

Euphoria is a side effect of opioids. You're high, dude.

Response by poster: Yes, I am. I'm just curious about how that actually works in the brain. According to the Erowid page referenced above, the specifics are unknown, but is has to do with opiate receptors in the brain. I don't take them unless I'm in bad shape, but I can see how they are addictive for people.

Feels gooooood, Dude.

Best answer: I suggest putting on a movie that you love and burritoing yourself on the couch in a blankie to watch it.

Before you go to bed, remember to brush your teeth cause percosets can cause dry mouth, which exacerbates tooth ick on unbrushed tooths.

Stretch a little bit (if you can/if you remember) before you go to bed as well so you're not too stiff in the morning.

Fuck arthritis, it is the worst fucking thing.

Don't call anyone who will be jerkish and judgmental about being on medications that people other than you and who are not in pain will use to get high. You are using them because your only other option is hellish pain, and you deserve to feel good and happy to not be hurting.

Had the exact same feelings on Percocet after oral surgery. This is pure euphoria of the sort that can make you understand how people become addicted.

I agree thousand-fold about sitting down with a good movie and letting the feelings you have accentuate everything you love about it. I remember watching Bladerunner (of all things), and just feeling myself drift with good feelings at the Vangelis theme music.

Just don't get too used to this....

Heh, and stay off Facebook... or else you might post some bizarre rant on a friend's page that turns into a compliment to someone who isn't present in the second sentence, none of which has anything to do with the thread you're posting in.

At least, that's what I heard. From a friend. Acquaintance, really.

Just an aside- you are most likely not on 750mg of Percocet. The acetaminophen part of your Percocet is probably 750mg. The oxycodone portion is probably closer to 5 or. 10mg.
Hope you feel better.
