My pooch is a never-nude

On Saturday we have a community street festival here in Perth, and I need my little Clyde to win the whole damn dog show.

I have two dogs and, so far, only one costume idea. My gorgeous black slinky whippet cross, Blossom, is going as Josephine Baker, with a ring of bananas [probably just pics of bananas on paper] around her waist.

Clyde is a dingo cross, and very dingo-ey in appearance, so the first idea I came up with was to make him carry a bloodied baby matinee jacket up the cat/dogwalk. I can't do it, it's just too wrong - baby-murdering dingoes are really not funny for a public audience. Oh, anywhere really.

Can you think of how I could work something dingo-ey into a costume and make him a hero on Saturday?

I don't want to link to flickr or facebook here, so I have put a pic of Clyde in my profile. Thanks in advance MeFi.

I'd dress him up as Rin-Tin-Tin. He has that look, minus all the fur.

Could you do up a kid's wagon to look like a piano and have him stand on it as Dinky the Singing Dingo? Would anyone get this? I have no idea. I just googled "famous dingoes" and that's what it gave me.

Channel Clint Eastwood into Clyde and turn him into a cowboy ranger hero. Modify a kids cowboy costume (guns around the waist, hat with ear cut-outs), strap a map of and a misper poster to his collar (of Azaria, if you dare) and go win that damn dog show!

For some reason I sense that that dog wants to dress like Indiana Jones.

From your title I thought you were looking for ideas for dressing your dog as Tobias Funke! I think some little denim shorts and glasses would be so funny...

Something to do with bingo as it rhymes with dingo?

From Wikipedia: In later shows in Paris, [Baker] was often accompanied on stage by her pet cheetah, Chiquita, who was adorned with a diamond collar.

Response by poster: I had the holster and neckerchief all ready to go, as per Kerasia's suggestions, but dammit dismitree, that is awesome. Do you think I could use body paint on Clyde's fur to create a bit of a pattern?

Check out Pinterest, if you search with words like pet, safe, petsafe, paint, non-toxic you should come across a few. (There's a pic going around with a horse that had a skeleton painted on it; I imagine that sort of thing would be safe for dogs too, for instance?) Also found this: "In general, look for paints which:
- do not contain lead, zinc or chromate
- are hard-wearing
- are fast drying

"Look on the back of the paint can and see if it is safe for a human baby. There usually is a picture of a mom holding a child's hand somewhere on the can."

Clyde would be an awesome cheetah, he's got the speed and follows Blossom everywhere ;)

Inspiration in the moment (walked past my pile o' fabric) – go to your local massive craft shop, pick up some knit furry leopard-style fabric and a couple feet (50cm) of stick-on velcro. Knit because you won't need to sew it, and it won't unravel in a day's use. Don't think you'll need more than a yard. Velcro comes in a lot of colors now, though plain white or black may be cheapest.

Use your mad architectural skillz to measure Clyde and figure out how best to cut out a pear-shaped coat that has two holes for his front legs. You could even go full-length and make a third centered hole in the back for his tail, would better anchor the costume too. Two velcro straps: one in front across his chest, leg level, and the second where you think it would be most comfortable for him. Although with a tail connection you might not need the second velcro strap. Tada. Cheetah Clyde.

I don't know anything about safe paint, but I want to point out that dogs are lot more likely to lick their body than horses are.
