I need a jacket that won't shed or cling to my shirt sleeves

I need a fleece jacket that has a wooly and not velour texture.

Back in the late 90s, I bought a fleece jacket similar to this one from Eddie Bauer. I wore it as a shell and then had a Gore Tex jacket that went on over it. It had a wooly texture and was very comfy.

Nowadays, all I can seem to find are coats that have a very velour like texture and I hate them. The material clings to my shirt sleeves and I have fibers from the coat all over my shirt when I get to work.

Can you please suggest some brands or specific coats that have the same texture as my old Ebtek fleece?

Hard to tell from the picture what you are looking for exactly, but maybe the Patagonia better sweater?

I think often fleece starts out with a velour like texture and gets more wooly/nubby after years of wearing and washing. You may just be remembering your old jacket as it ended up, not how it was when it was new. :)

The fiber shedding is definitely due to newness - wash it once a week or so for awhile until it stops (will probably only take 1-3 washes).

Any reason you can't get an actual wool fleece? The material is clinging to your sleeves because of static electricity. Stop wearing plastic, and the problem is solved. Here's a starting point.

What you want is berber fleece. Like the lining on this LL Bean sweatshirt (which I can personally endorse). This is the hood-less version.

Kuhl may be an option?

Note though that static in winter due to the low humidity happens even with close fitting wool items, let alone fleece. Also, Mr. gudrun has a lot of fleece items of the more velour-like type (from L.L.Bean, Sahalie, Woolrich, and Cabela's mainly, all good quality IMHO with little to no shedding) and what amaire says has been out experience as well: "I think often fleece starts out with a velour like texture and gets more wooly/nubby after years of wearing and washing. ... Patagonia makes one that would suit your needs; I think it's now called Retro Pile. Nubby pile, not too thick that faces outwards, with the non-pile side bonded to a thin fuzzy liner. Not pill-y or velour-y or sticky or static-y. I bought mine in 1990 and it's still great after a lot of very heavy wear.
