Good quality hardshell suitcase?

We're looking for a good quality hardshell suitcase - any suggestions on brands and where to buy? A 2 pack would be great - one carry on size, and one slightly larger.

I've had the same luggage for about 13 years, and they're starting to break down (wheels, etc). I'd like to replace it with hardshell luggage - we like the look, plus with the hard shell carry on, it fits perfectly in the overhead compartment, whereas a soft sided will not if you over fill it.

Plus, we're starting to travel more frequently - mostly by car, but occasionally by air, so if you have specific recommendations for one or the other, they would be welcome.

I know places are having sales, but I really don't know what a good price is for this, or where the best place to buy is - any suggestions?

I've been happy with my waterproof rolling case from Fuerte Cases

Best answer: I replaced my old carry-on with a set of two from Costco last year. "Ricardo of Beverly Hills" or something like that, though I'm sure many of these bags come off the same production line.

I think it's this set.

After a couple years of throwing it around through 25 weeks of traveling a year, the small one still looks basically new. I overstuff it regularly and sit on it to get the zipper to close, and all has been well. I've started using a luggage strap just for peace of mind. The zippers are sturdy, but I don't really have to find out exactly how sturdy.

I just make sure to touch all the various screws every once in a while to make sure nothing gets loose and strips, though if it does, Costco will replace it as long as they're in business.

Small one fits in the overhead nicely.

Best answer: One advantage of soft-side for the overhead is that different planes have different sized overheads and a hard-side that fits in all overheads will end up the size of a briefcase (and I've even seen some of them have issues on ERJ's. A lot of times an overhead is not shaped as a rectangular box and so a soft-side will fit because it smushes into the corners.
