Inserting Windows Media Video into Power Point

I have spent the last 3-4 hours trying to embed a video from Windows Movie Maker into a power point (yes, I am that inept at computers!). I keep getting this message when I try to insert it: "Power Point cannot select a video from the selected file. Verify that the necessary codec for this media format is installed and try again." I've followed link after link and am really tired. Help!

I am using Windows Version 7 and have Power Point 2010 (Does this matter?) Also, I have tried two different kinds of video cameras with the same result. I have created a windows movie that I have saved and can watch in Windows Movie Maker, but when I click the Insert, Video from Power Point that pesky message comes up. I have been told to download Encoder so I did. I tried to covert the file, but it is very complex with little help for people like me. Anyone, am I having this problem because of old windows or power point? Why does everone else in the universe tell me it was easy to do this? Help!!! Thanks all.

Try using this to convert your file to .avi format

If the above advice doesn't work, two suggestions (both free):

Use MediaInfo to find out what precisely is being used in that video file.

Install CCCP to get pretty much every codec in the known universe.

CCCP may fix the problem for you, but it could also result in a PowerPoint file that could cause errors when viewed by someone else. I think recoding your video is a better answer.
