How long should I charge my Motorola 7100 batteries?

I need advice on how to charge my handies' batteries.

I have 4 Motorola Talkabout t7100s, with their corresponding NI-Mh packs and chargers. The thing is if I charge them for the recommended 12 hours or so, the packs last much much less than if i charge then for 22-24hs. I would do this but I'm concerned with overcharging. Will it ruin my batteries?

Usually the chargers will set to "trickle down" mode after the batteries are charged about 90% or so to prevent overcharging. Rechargeable batteries don't last forever, so they won't hold as long of a charge over time. Maybe yours are going bad and that's why you notice a big difference between the recommended time and the longer charge time.

Let the batteries run all the way down before you recharge them; this will help extend the their life.
