HaircutFilter II: How do I do a cute messy child's haircut like this?

I confess the little kid in the picture is me and we're talking about me getting a haircut like that once again (thirty five years later). Have no fear, I've already cut my hair once using the great advice I got here last time round. Though I really enjoyed layering my curly hair in one simple cut I've realized that what I really want is something short (but cute!) and a babyish asymetrical tangled mess would be great! Anyone here know how to do it?

Well, who cut it last time? :)

oh man. You never again have the good hair you had when you were a kid. never.

it's sad.

that said, getting close would probably require using a straight razor (to make it chunky) and someone who knows what they're doing. I'm sure there's amateur (or even professional) hair stylists here who could tell you more.

Your hair is much finer when you're very young. Even if you cut every hair the exact same length (and if you still have every hair in the exact same place), you won't get the same effect.

I've had very similar hair and 30 yrs later, it just won't look like that again. I've had it varying lengths of short, made it super curly and straight to no avail. It's that magic baby hair, I guess.

Response by poster: it doesn't have to be exactly the same (i'm not ;-) ). i'd love something in that direction - really messy but cute.

any ideas and/or directions how to do it? (an idea: if anyone here has cut their kids hair like that it would be very helpful if you could explain how you did it)

Meg Ryan used to do that super curly, messy, cute look. She might be a better example for a hairdresser to approx. the look.

My twin sister and I had curly hair as little kids, but by the age of five it had all grown straight. A couple of years back she had cancer, went through chemo, went bald. NOW, with her hair growing back it is curly agin, the same sweet fluffy curls we had as babies. If anyone really wants to get their great childhood hair back, adreomyacin is the way to go (with the downside being nausea, months of baldness, losing your eyebrows and eyelashes , hemorrhoids, susceptability to infections, etc)!
