Looking for new jeans!

Does anyone sell jeans that are similar to Levi's Low Skinny 531's? I got a pair in a clothes swap and adore them to death, but they don't seem to be made anymore. I know I can get them on eBay but I'd like to do that as a last resort. I'm not Levi's loyal so any brand will do (in fact, the less expensive, the better).

What is it about them that you prefer above other skinny jeans? I have skinny jeans from Old Navy and Calvin Klein (with the price points to match), and I like them both for different reasons.

I found Eddie Bauer's jeans had the best fit for me when I couldn't find my Levis any more.

Response by poster: hungrybruno > I wanted to get a few pairs of straight-leg jeans (I have some very nice boots that I wanted to show off when wearing jeans).

At the stores I frequent (think Old Navy/Target/that level), if you want straight-leg jeans, you have to get skinny jeans. I hate them because they are sausage casings for my thighs and bunch up at the ankle (which, admittedly, is what skinny jeans are supposed to do).

The 531's skim my legs but don't hold them in a vise-like grip. They have a "short" inseam, and I'm 5'6", so they hit right at my ankle.

I can't compare them specifically to the 531's, but I find that Gap's 1969 Always Skinny jeans don't have that super-tight ankle, plus they come in a variety of inseams.

It doesn't really solve your problem, but Levi's run a range of jeans called CurveID. The skinny fits in these (at least in the UK) are quite low-rising though they have elastine in them. The boyfriend skinnies sit a liiiittle bit higher, but they're denim-denim. It's worthwhile popping into a store and getting measured for which curve works best for you if you have the time... You never know, you might like them. Either way, Levi's hem jeans to whatever length you need for free (so inseam issues shouldn't really matter). ^_^

Aside from that, our choice in the UK's a lot more restricted than stateside, so the only ones that retail internationally and come immediately to mind are raw jeans, and they're bloody expensive. It might be your thing, though; have a look at Naked&Famous.

I'm a fan of Jcrew matchstick jeans. They are pricier, but can often be found on the factory site for less (the ones I'm wearing right now were $40). Fitted through hips and thighs (and mine are not slender), straight/skinny from knee to ankle. I'm wearing them right now in a size 31 - my ankle circumference is about 10 inches and there's about 2" of space at the leg opening; the front rise (from top of belt band to crotch seam) is 8.5". [keep in mind I'm wearing them while taking these measurements and I'm using a ruler and piece of paper not a cloth measuring tape....luckily no one is walking by my cubicle at the moment]

Plus they come in short (though, at 5'11" I don't have any experience with that). If you shop in store, they give a 15% student discount.

Kohl's sells Levi's. I got a pair there that I loved. What about these? Also, have you looked at Gap's straight leg jeans? I've had my eye on them.

Have you tried out Madewell? I love my Levi High Rise Skinny's and find their Skinny Skinny's comparable, with a lower rise. I'm about 5'7 with longish legs and they hit at about the ankle. They also have an ankle cut if you've got shorter legs.

You could try this "clone a jeans" option. I haven't used it myself, but I saw it recommended on Metafilter before by people who have.
