Story about a dragon untying a knot

Long-ago fantasy story: can anyone identify a story about a dragon that untied knots and tangles? Possibly a YA. I remember an incident where the dragon (a wise and friendly Chinese-type one) pulled a loop with a single claw. That's al i can remember except that i liked the story at the time. Ideas, anyone, please?

I think this may be Chinthliss in one of the Mercedes Lackey books - does that sound familiar? Either a book in the Tannim / Serrated Edge series or the book in the Bedlam's Bard series where an elf and a human ask Chinthliss's help in having a child - Spirits White as Lightning.

I wonder if it might be from the Enchanted Forest Chronicles series by Patricia C. Wrede.

Best answer: I'm with zia, sounds like Tea with the black dragon or its sequel, Twisting the rope.

Response by poster: Sorry, but none of these are It for certain. The cover of Dragon of the Lost Sea rings lots of bells--but what I can glean from Amazon's Look Inside doesn't look familiar; Tea with the Black Dragon sounds fascinating and I have added it to my Amazon wish list. Thanks for trying anyway to everyone.
