Can anyone recommend a NYC-located trademark lawyer who's helped you to register a trademark/clothing logo in order to sell clothing?

Can anyone recommend a trademark lawyer who's helped you to register a trademark/clothing logo in order to sell clothing? We're located in Brooklyn, NY so anyone in the NYC area would be great.

From what we understand you need to have a registered logo that goes on the clothing tags before being able to sell clothes.

The wife has been making clothes for quite a while and would like to create a corporation to start selling them to stores and such.

We considered using online sites like Legal Zoom but after talking with some other folks and reading other threads (e.g. Corporate Trademark Registration), we decided to pony up and pay for a proper lawyer to guide us through the process.

Thanks!

The trademark and the creation of the corporation are two different things.

First, incorporate. Then create a trademark that the corporation owns.

Any intellectual property attorney in NYC can advise you on the trademark side. Either they can also help you incorporate or they can refer you to another attorney who can do the incorporation.

I've used Envision IP's services before for intellectual property-related work. They're expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

Best answer: I can recommend the staff at Cowan Liebowitz & Latman, P.C. for exactly this kind of work.

I will DM you the direct phone number and email address of the attorney I know. I am certain he would be able to talk you through all of what dfriedman speaks to, and more.

(I am a trademark attorney) Just to clarify so you have good info before you speak with an attorney, you don't need a registered trademark before you can sell product. In fact, you don't strictly speaking need a registration at all - trademark rights are gained through use in the US - though it's certainly helpful.

In any event, if you're still in need of a recommendation, feel free to MeMail me.
