Itazura na Kiss, Zainichi Koreans, and Japan

How is the character of Kinnosuke Ikezawa from "Itazura na Kiss" viewed in Japan?
Is his name and separation from his parents for work reasons meant indicate that he is a Zainichi Korean? If so, would this aspect of his have made it difficult for a Japanese audience to have accepted his marrying of a Japanese woman instead of an American one?
