Essential Men's Gear from Patagonia

I have access to a pro deal from Patagonia for a few more months. What are some men's essentials that it would be worth it to purchase / stock up on? I ski, hike and am getting more into mountaineering. There are a fair amount of things from Patagonia that I consider ridiculous for the price, so I'm just curious which one's are actually worth it.

All of their capilene base layers are great. Their down sweater is amazing, or if you want synthetic, their nanopuff jacket is basically the same thing.

cap-2 shirts. layer great, last forever. The patagonia underwear sucks. A cap-3 zip is a great heavier layer for skiing.

I love the R1 hoody for a skiing and climbing midlayer.

If you like boxers, I can't recommend the silkweight boxers highly enough. They're very comfortable and tougher than nails. I especially prefer them in the summer or when I travel to hot places---much more comfortable than cotton or even bamboo. Very hard wearing too. I've got a few pairs more than a decade old with no visible wear.

If you're getting into serious mountaineering, I recommend their ultralight down parka (they have a non-hooded version, but if you look at the gear lists of alpine outfitters, they always recommend having a hood). It is perfect for hanging out at the summit and compacts to basically nothing, which makes it good emergency insulated gear in case you ever need to unexpectedly spend a night in the backcountry.

I am not a fan of their Capilene gear and much prefer base made of merino wool. Trust me, other members of your party will appreciate you not wearing Capilene. It's no big secret among outdoorsy people that it stinks. Horribly. Stay away if you plan to do even a tiny bit of sweating in it. Their Capilene garments feature an odor control technology now (a lot of manufacturers have been trying to control the stink, like Marmot which incorporates silver into its synthetic base layers) but let's just say it's less than effective and doesn't even come close to competing with wool or silk fabrics.

I spend a lot of time on mountains with people who wear shirts with prominent Patagonia logos, and after about three hours into a whole day ascent, I don't want to be anywhere near those people due to the stench.

Other things that you will need for sure are merino socks as well as several pairs of gloves (I pack four pairs of gloves on any snow scramble – insulating mittens with handwarmer pockets, fleece gloves, and two pairs of warm all-weather gloves) and it looks like Patagonia's aren't too expensive, so it might be good to stock up.

Seconding that the capilene stuff gets... smelly.

I have a windproof patagonia vest and my last big ski trip I lived in that thing. So get a solid vest?

If you need a backpack or messenger bag, you might want to check those out. No specific recommendations (I like the Mini-mass, but it's pretty tiny for most people's needs)

I don't know about men's stuff but most of my longest lasting stuff has come from Patagonia. Jeans, capilene, flannel shirts, wool sweaters, t shirts...

I have the Houdini jacket and a 3-in-1 waterproof parka and both are super awesome. Actually even my favorite shoes are from there... Evermore trail running shoes and Advocate casual shoes.

R1, R2 (especially this one) jackets are awesome. Seconding the silkweight boxers. Also really like their glove liners which I wear as gloves most of the time.
