What's the likelihood of my boyfriend being denied entry into Canada for a reckless operation conviction?

Last summer, my boyfriend received his first and only conviction of reckless operation of a vehicle. His licence was suspended for a few months and he served no jail time.

He told me that our local DMV/BMV told him that his record as it stands should not prevent him from entering Canada. We're going up north for a week in two weeks, by way of Niagara Falls.

But I'm nervous. Most of the information regarding this issue that I've read is years old, including the previous two questions on AskMe, so I'd appreciate anything recent I should know about this. Thank you.

Any offence that could be considered a felony in Canada will get your boyfriend turned away if they notice it at the border. Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle can be a felony in Canada, so that would qualify. Your boyfriend can file for Rehabilitation for Persons Who are Inadmissible to Canada Because of Past Criminal Activity and that way he can know whether he'll be allowed to cross the border (if the application is approved) or not (if it's denied).

Hi! I know what this feels like. I moved up here nearly five years ago with a DUI from my early 20s on my record. Considering you're not planning on moving up here like I did, your boyfriend can apply for a TRP (temporary resident permit). But searching on the Interwebs has brought this news dated around March 1st, 2012. There are many forums regarding admissibility to Canada online. Might I suggest you post your query there as well?

The Canadian border patrol are usually very polite and clear, and I agree with making a call, as windykites said, to clarify.
