I'd like to make a zoot-suit, something like this. Where can I find a pattern?

It looks like several of the major companies have costume patterns, but they're all out of print. The relevant numbers are Simplicity 4585, McCalls 3793, or Vogue 2367. Each of those comes in varying sizes, but between eBay and Etsy you can find most of those. You're looking at around $40-50 though. There's also a Simplicity 8879 that's a retro reproduction.

I came to suggest Etsy too.

Could you modify an existing suit, perhaps one with wider legs and a longer inseam?

Are you looking to make it from scratch or modify an existing suit? Depending on the final size you could size down a larger suit.

OR you can modify a suit pattern. You can even find a cheap second hand suit and undo the stitching to make a patter from that.

Response by poster: I have to make one, from scratch. Ideally, I would like a free pattern. $40 is too much. If a Mefite has a pattern lying around and could email me, I would gladly send some money your way.

I bought a fabulous zoot suit for my wedding from Siegel in San Fran. A long shot but maybe they could help.

If you're making a costume, try searching for "gangster" suit/costume instead. This one is only $10 on ebay. Here's another.
