Non-Constant Contact Email Listserver

I would like to set up an email group for occasional communications, and would prefer something other than Constant Contact. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Specifications desired detailed inside.

- Simple and automatic subscribe/unsubscribe by recipients
- Some formatting available, but doesn't need to be fancy; header and footer fine
- The template should be set up once and then used by default
- Simple to use (I'm setting it up for a friend whose site I host, and who isn't super savvy)
- Free or cheap

Best answer: Depending on your list size, check out MailChimp. The 501(c)(3) I volunteer for uses them for 5-6 emails a year and it works beautifully (and is useable by our less-technical volunteers).

Best answer: I've used MailChimp for simple things and Emma for both simple and really complex stuff (managing dozens of lists, from-scratch HTML templates, etc). I like Emma better personally but I don't know what it costs.

Response by poster: Thanks all. Done. It was fairly simple to set up the subscribe form consistent with the site and I'm sure it will be the same for the email as well.
