Great adult learning apps for iPhone

I think we've had a couple of questions specific to language apps in the past. But I got to wondering what particularly good learning apps for grown-up users are out there, regardless of subject. Specifically, apps that are well designed, easy to use but challenging to the appropriate degree, and fun. Pretty graphics are nice too.

Apps for learning what sorts of things? It is very hard to answer your question otherwise. I realize that you ask "regardless of subject" but it is difficult to give a useful answer to such a broad question.

The facilities available through apps, and generally online are legion when it comes to learning to play a musical instrument.

Response by poster: I really am generally interested in any great apps for adults - so many of the apps that come up under "educational" are geared towards kids.

However, to get more specific:
- a current events quiz app, especially one that draws from quality content and is regularly updated. More "The prime minister of India is A, B, or C," less "This celebrity got plastic surgery to celebrate her release from jail."
- history
- geography
- critical thinking
- economics

If you know so many excellently-designed learning apps for adults that you can't possibly name them all without narrowing down the field, just tell me the top 5 ;)

Flashcards are great for everything.

The Quizlet app is pretty good, and free; you can easily download flashcard decks on just about any subject that interests you. Similarly, Anki is an SRS (spaced repetition software) app that's terrific but costs $25 for iOS. (It's probably worth it, but that's a lot more than most apps.)

I'd also strongly recommend downloading Khan Academy videos for topics like economics.
