Help me identify a video game

I remember an RPG... I think it was for DOS or Windows. It was a kind of puzzle/mystery genre game, and it was like all video? Like your character walking around was sort of a mortal kombat video captured sprite walking around realistic (also kind of grainy video-y) backgrounds. The main character was a woman, I think she was asian, pretty sure she had long black hair. Can you identify the game?
From your description (interactive movie adventure/puzzle, old PC, asian woman protagonist with black hair), the Daedalus Encounter maybe ?

Maybe not quite what you're thinking of, but when I think of "all video" old-time puzzle/mystery games, I think of Treasure Quest. While Terry Farrell isn't Asian, she's got long dark hair and there were differently-themed segments (rooms) within the game, where she dressed according to the theme. One may have been Asian?
Just a long shot. :)

Response by poster: Thanks for finding it lucidium. I saw it on a justin.tv livestream once and kept thinking back to it for months. I think I'll play it now.
Thanks to the rest of you, too, because now I also want to play Phantasmagoria, Daedalus Encounter, and Mirror's Edge! :)

I should add Lost in Time and a list of other full motion video games. (And I replayed Beast Within recently -- it holds up!)
