How do I get rid of this screenshot button on my note II?

The button is the furthest top left. I accidentally hit it about 20 times a day. I've Googled and searched settings I can't find anything. Pic here

Look under Settings > Screen > Quick Launch, it should be in there (based on the tablets that are running the same stuff)

I don't have a Note II but if I had an app like that on my Android, I'd try:

1. Long pressing on it to open the app and see if it has a settings or preferences option and then look under the heading "notifications"

2. Look in the settings area of the phone itself and see if there's a notifications option. (Since the button is in the notification pane).

Response by poster: Both of your ideas failed.

The icon you are talking about is in the Notifications Bar. It is very likely that the screenshot app itself has a preference controlling whether that icon appears. Can you get into preferences in the screenshot app?

I have a Note II on T-Mobile and I definitely don't have that screenshot thing. You must have a screenshot app installed, or it is part of another app. Remove the problem app. Problem solved.

On the Note II you can take a screenshot by swiping the side of your hand across the entire screen. Or by holding the button on the pen and pressing it to the screen. You don't need a screenshot app. It's built into the OS.

The Note II runs a Samsung-proprietary shell called TouchWiz that changes much of the standard Android interface and settings system. Some people like it, some people don't, but regardless it definitely makes the Note II operate somewhat differently from other Androids. That is probably why the instructions that people are giving you are not working.

I do not have a TouchWiz phone so sadly I can't give you any instructions on how to remove the shortcut in question, however. Fake's instructions seem like they would work though, unless the screenshot app is part of another app that you want to keep or is part of a carrier bundle that cannot be removed.

Response by poster: How can I easily find which app is the culprit app? I have over 100 apps and none are specifically for screenshots

You could start by giving us more information.

Which Note II do you have?

Which carrier are you on?

Are you running the stock operating system, or a mod?

Which version of Android is it?

Is your phone rooted? Do you know how to use Android debug information?

When you take a screenshot, where does it go?

Does the screenshot folder have a special name that might indicate what app is taking the screenshots??

Can you post a screenshot of your actual notification bar?

If you hold-press on the screenshot button, does it give you options?

Does it give you options if you hold-press with the notification area pulled down?

Try some things. Look for clues. Try uninstalling apps that may have a screenshot feature.

I cropped out the icon from your screengrab and uploaded it to Google Image search, and got this page, with:
Take a screenshot without having to remember complex key combinations by touching the Screenshot icon [YOUR ICON HERE] in the System Bar. Screenshots are available for viewing in the Gallery.

If you have changed the “quick launch” slot to another feature, you can add the screenshot icon back by touching the clock to open the Notification Panel, and touching Settings > Display > Quick launch > Screen capture.
So presumably you can remove it from the "quick launch" slot that it currently occupies by going in to "Settings > Display > Quick launch" ??
