Coming home for Christmas film?

Can you help me identify the following film from my mother's description. It's so I can buy it for her partner's Christmas present. She said 'P loves that corny film about someone trying to get home for christmas'. What film is she thinking of?

Planes, Trains and Automobiles maybe?

Any more details at all would be really helpful - there are a lot of movies like this.

Could it be Trains, Planes and Automobiles?

Just checked, and that's actually about someone trying to get home for Thanksgiving, but otherwise it could be it.

Wow, that could be a lot of things!

It could be The Homecoming, which spawned The Waltons TV series. It could be considered "corny" not because it's funny but because it's sentimental and old-fashioned.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles comes to mind, but that's about Thanksgiving.

Is it an old movie? Miracle on 34th Street was the first thing that popped into my head.

Home Alone? I'm sure you've seen it, but it's all about the parents trying to get back home after they realise they've left their kid Kevin behind at home (alone) over the Christmas break.

Whoops! Read that as "trying to get a home for Christmas".

Now I'm thinking Home Alone, as well.

Plains Trains and Automobiles or Home Alone is the answer.

There's also I'll be Home for Christmas, starring one of the kids from Home Improvement. It is a Disney movie and definitely meets the "corny" criteria.

I don't know if this is the one you're thinking of but it's a splendid holiday movie nonetheless: Home For The Holidays.

Probably not The Sure Thing, although it's about trying to get somewhere for Christmas.

What's that one, where the guy has to get home from college for Christmas, and he can have the car, (amazing mustang?) or it gets sold. Does not have a car. Involves a scene where he says he has organs for life saving donations in an insulated lunch box, so needs the ticket(s) for the Greyhound ? Also involves a scene where he is superglued into a santa suit and left for dead in the desert.
